THE INGREDIENTS:

2 1/2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup butter - cold
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg beaten for a bit rubbed on scones

METHOD:

1.       Heat oven at 180'C for 5 minutes (temperature depends on the type of oven you use)

2.       Sift flour with baking powder and sugar. Then add all the cold butter already cut into small cubes and mash the butter with a fork and mix the butter with the flour until it becomes like breadcrumbs patter preferably do all of this quickly so that the butter remains cool.

3.        In a suitable container combine egg, vanilla and buttermilk. Mix all ingredients until well blended.

4.       Make like a hole in the middle of the dough mixture and put the egg mixture, then mix this mixture with a spoon, let all the ingredients well enough. Do not knead the dough too long.  Compact the dough like a ball put in the freezer briefly for 20 minutes.

5.       Remove the dough from the refrigerator and continue to smooth the dough with flour mills approximately 1 inch thick and use round molds or glasses to die the dough.  Arrange the dough on the baking tray that has rubbed some butter or vegetable oil. Apply egg or milk in this scones dough surface.

6.       Bake the scones for 20-30 minutes at a temperature of 180'C or  until cooked golden brown scones, make sure not to cook later over scones can be shattered / dry. When cooked remove from the oven and leave to cool on the relay / steel tray.
